Galway based MedScan3D are continuing to expand their team with the creation of a new role in the organisation – Lead Innovator, Test Model Product Development which has been successfully filled in partnership with the InterTradeIreland Fusion Programme.
As part of this new partnership, MedScan3D, along with its sister company 3D Technology Ltd. availed of InterTradeIreland funding to recruit a high calibre engineering graduate to assist with the continued development of their anatomical range of products. After a lengthy recruitment process the company recently announced the arrival of UL Mechanical Engineering graduate Conor Tarpey to fill the position.
Based in Galway City, MedScan3D has established itself as Ireland’s leading supplier of 3D printed anatomical models, used for a variety of applications including surgical planning, medical device development and education.
Conor’s role with MedScan3D will focus on the development of patient specific silicone models for medical device testing with interchangeable ports and attachments. It aims to identify and develop a patient specific silicone testing model, formulate silicone material with a coating for lubrication, to mimic the low friction properties of target tissues.
Central to the role is the development of a bench-top testing device suitable for vascular device testing. Validation of both the materials, models, and the vascular testing device will also be pursued.
For MedScan3D Founder & Technical Director Jacqui O’Connor the new role allows the company continue to innovate in a dynamic environment. “With the continuing adoption of anatomical models by medical professionals and medtech companies we are continually adapting to our customers’ needs and requirements. Having Conor’s contribution in this area will be of significant benefit to us going forward.”
As a University of Limerick graduate, Conor Tarpey has already gained extensive experience in manufacturing environments, including stints with established companies including Kirby Engineering, Boston Scientific and Medtronic where he worked in their Process Development Group on new product development projects in the areas of cardiac and vascular medical devices.
Speaking about his new role with MedScan3D, Conor is looking forward to the challenge. “It’s great to start with MedScan3D and hopefully contribute to their continued success. I’ve been aware of the company for some time so really looking forward to getting involved with the development of these innovative anatomical models.”
