Galway based medical device company MedScan3D has been successful in joining the InterTradeIreland FUSION programme, which supports cross-border business on the island through developing and embedding innovation.
As part of this new partnership, MedScan3D, along with its sister company 3D Technology Ltd. has secured funding to recruit a high calibre science, engineering or technology graduate to assist with the continued expansion of the business. The successful candidate will be employed by MedScan3D for an 18 month period and will receive additional mentoring from an InterTradeIreland FUSION consultant.
Based in Galway City, MedScan3D has established itself as Ireland’s leading player in the area of 3D printed anatomical models, used for a variety of applications including surgical planning, medical device development and education.

According to MedScan Technical Director Jacqui O’Connor, the new partnership with the InterTradeIreland FUSION programme is an ideal fit. “Based on the type of innovation we have pursued at MedScan3D, we are seeking to recruit candidates of the highest calibre possible. But equally, financing the continued development of our team can be challenging for a startup such as ourselves. The FUSION programme aligns brilliantly with our needs to bring great people on board while also providing us the financial support to do so.”
The role of Lead Innovator, Test Model Development advertised by MedScan3D involves the development of patient specific silicone models for medical device testing with interchangeable ports and attachments. It also aims to identify and develop a patient specific silicone testing model and formulate silicone material with a coating for lubrication to mimic the low friction properties of target tissues.

The InterTradeIreland FUSION programme has been a hugely successful initiative by InterTradeIreland, helping companies develop or improve products, services & processes, while increasing efficiencies and performance within the participating businesses. Graduates have also benefitted significantly by securing roles within some of Ireland’s leading companies while continuing to have the support of InterTradeIreland and Queens University Belfast.
