Surge in demand for face shields expected as businesses prepare to re-open
A Galway based 3D printing company is expecting to see a significant increase in demand for protective face shields from non-healthcare companies as the Government weighs up the easing of restrictions for retailers and business owners.
As the Covid-19 crisis continues to place a significant strain on the overall economy, and with the Government now examining options to get people back to work in a safe and measured fashion, attention is now focused on how to protect both workers and the general public during this process. According to 3D Technology Ltd. (MedScan3D) founder James Wall, his company is already seeing increased demand for 3D printed face shields amongst traditional businesses.
3D Printed Face Shield
“Since the outbreak of the Covid pandemic we’ve been dealing extensively with healthcare organisations across the country and providing 3D printed reusable face shields for frontline workers. We’ve been working around the clock to meet demand, and what we are seeing now are enquiries from retailers and business owners as they prepare to re-open their businesses.”
With Germany having just announced that facemasks will be mandatory for shoppers as they begin to ease lockdown restrictions, there is no doubt that face shields will prove equally crucial in terms of workers dealing with customers as businesses begin to reopen. With continuing restrictions likely, MedScan3D Technical Director Jacqui O’Connor anticipates even more demand for their protective face shields.
“At MedScan3D we have altered our business to help other businesses get back to work by manufacturing a reusable 3D printed face shield. We have been supplying our face shields to several healthcare organisations and the feedback has been extremely positive. We have been advised by frontline healthcare workers of their comfort and usability which is fantastic.”
“We understand that business life is going to change in the coming months, and we want to help get businesses opened up again. By wearing one of our Markforged face shields workers will have increased protection against the Covid-19 virus during these pandemic times. This product is Intended to help block and prevent passage of air born vapour from the face of the user.
As business owners across the country await further guidance from the Government, it seems likely that 3D printed face shields will play an important role in protecting both workers and the general public in the months ahead.
